On June 17, 1928: born in Tokyo.

On 21 December, 1954: ordained a priest.

1955 -57: worked at the bishop office

1957-60: studied at Pontifical Urbanian University, Rome and obtained in Doctorate in Canon Law.

1960-66: worked at the bishop office.

On May 8, 1966: consecrated as Auxiliary Bishop of Tokyo.

On November 15, 1969: appointed coadjutor bishop of Tokyo.

On February 21, 1970: became Archbishop of Tokyo.

On October 30, 1994: named a cardinal by Pope John Paul II.

On June 12, 2000: retired for health reason from the office of archbishop of Tokyo
